To get ready for the holidays, I start baking cookies as early as possible and freeze them in small baggie so that I always have some when friends drop in for a visit.

I start cleaning and decorating the guest bedrooms in advance so I will have ample time for all the other holiday preparations. Overnight friends and family enjoy seeing holiday decor in their rooms too........especially the kids!!

Smart idea Deb - it's always stressful to get guest rooms ready at the last minute! And holiday decor IS fun for kids - and adults too!

I always have some holiday-scented candles that I light when company comes. Also, I make batches of goodies ahead of time (like fudge or cookies) and put them in the freezer...that way, if I need a last-minute gift or have some drop-in company, I'm all ready.

First:I get organized early this seems to help everything fall into place with a relaxed holiday season. Never wait until the last minute to start that makes everything go wrong.

I like to do what some of the others have already suggested, to bake ahead of time and freeze things. I also shop during the year if I see something I like, but don't really need it and put it in my "gift" area, so if I need a last minute gift, I'll have something. And if I'm really on top of things, I'll prepare breakfast casseroles and freeze them as I always have out of town guests.
